One of the incentives to live in the region is the extremely low-cost housing. Outside of the actual confines of the Ginn Resort, the housing is very uniform. Almost every house looks the same due to the town planning. New stores are opening up everywhere and the local economy looks to be doing very well. A great deal of this is due to the golfing industry. With courses designed by Jack and Dye, there is a real draw.

It will be interesting to see if they continue on the path of being a more residnetial golfing community or if they shift their focus to being a destination. This is not your typical Hilton Head. There are very few hotels in the area and there really doesn’t seem to be any more being built.

The best finish that I can think of would be this year’s US Open. It was somewhat anticlimactic in the way Tiger did not have to make a putt to win. The dramatics that led up to this could never be matched. D.A. Points lacked a lovable competitor like Rocco, but made up for it with this eagle.

I would have to go with Tiger, just for the added drama with the surgery. We will have to wait and see if there was anything wrong with D.A. to fully put this to rest.

CAMILO

Camilo, who has come on strong at the end of the year, seems to be carrying a lot of momentum into the offseason. With wins at the Tour Championship and at the BMW, he has proven himself in a great field. He has yet to make a significant run at a major, though. He seems to love the spotlight, so I do not think that he is “afraid” of winning, but seems to be just waiting for his turn so to speak. Will he win next year? With all of the momentum he is carrying in with him for next year, I still do not see him capturing a major. Maybe next year, Camilo.

SERGIO

I know, I know. How long are we going to consider Sergio a young gun? As you might already know from a previous blog, I hate Sergio. How many times do we have to watch him take it in the shorts as he has the tournament in his hands before we stop caring? Well I have stopped caring. It is like watching someone get run over by a car over and over again. It has reached the point where it is getting sad to watch. All of that talent is going to waste. One of the most pure and natural swings ever is being put to use to win Euro events. I must admit that he is good for the game. A great deal of people like him for his sort of lovable loser quality. He has shown signs of life recently lately with his win in Europe. I would hope that he could get his first major just out of pity next year, but I think he is going to fall short once again. When it comes down to it, do you think he really trusts himself to make a 5 footer to win a major?

AK

Besides having one of the coolest nicknames on tour, he also has a very stellar resume in his short career. Having won the AT&T and the Wachovia this year on two of the tours more famed courses, he has proven that he can win on a good track. Out of all of the young guns on tour, I feel that he has the drive more than any other. He tends to take the blame for what he does and doesn’t blame some odd universal conspiracy as Sergio tends to do. His swing resembles the mastery that Hogan once had. With his big contract with Nike and his high expectations coming up, it seems fitting that he would be passed the crown.

TIGER

With all of these contenders looking to replace him atop the top of the golfing world, Tiger has a lot to play for. Tiger doesn’t seem to be concerned too much. This time may be good for him to recharge and keep fresh for the rest of his career. He always seemed to lack a sense of balance between work and life. This time may help him with that. Coming back next year will obviously be a difficult task. After his last absence following the passing of Earl, his father, things were tough with him missing the cut at a major. While he obviously won’t be dealing with anything of that magnitude, it will still be a tough comeback. Making sure that he can make a full turn with his knee with all of the torque, he creates will be interesting to see. Once Tiger gets back to his previous best, it will be interesting to see if anyone has caught up to him with his layoff. If he wins when he first comes back, which looks like Augusta, then we could finally put him as the best golfer of all time. Having taken the time off and still being atop of the world of golf would be something that is truly amazing. Sorry young guns, it still looks like Tiger will be owning you!

While the 588 has long been considered the standard, I think that it has had its day. With all of the new materials and people being willing to spend more money on equipment, I don’t think this club has the so called “bling factor” anymore. Even though it still does the job, there are wedges out there that provide more spin and have better feel now. There is still nothing like looking down on a 588 at address though.

Vokey Spin Milled

The Vokey Spin Milled wedge came out with a great deal of hype. It was their answer to the assortment of new high end wedges being offered. It came out with all of the Titleist staffers raving about the spin and the classic profile. I did find this wedge to have a great amount of spin and it was decent enough to look at. The only catch with the spin milled as with all other vokey wedges is the lack of feel. All in all, the vokey has its high points, but really comes short on one of the most important aspects in your short game arsenal.

Nike Forged              

 
As you can probably tell by now, this is going to be the winner. With its ever classic profile from address and its beautiful array of finishes, it is the best modern wedge in terms of looks. The simple swoosh on the back gives it a sophisticated feel. The actual feel of the wedge has been matched by very few since. The spin was very admirable at the time while still allowed you finish the round with one ball.
