With the tour stopping in my stomping ground this week, I feel that it would be interesting to discuss the growth of this new golfing mecca. Palm Coast is about ten minutes south of St. Augustine and about forty minutes north of Daytona Beach. This leaves it in a pretty popular place, but it has just recently received national recognition due to the local golf. With the Ginn Company having a multitude of tournaments, the people in the area have started to look into it more.
One of the incentives to live in the region is the extremely low-cost housing. Outside of the actual confines of the Ginn Resort, the housing is very uniform. Almost every house looks the same due to the town planning. New stores are opening up everywhere and the local economy looks to be doing very well. A great deal of this is due to the golfing industry. With courses designed by Jack and Dye, there is a real draw.
It will be interesting to see if they continue on the path of being a more residnetial golfing community or if they shift their focus to being a destination. This is not your typical Hilton Head. There are very few hotels in the area and there really doesn’t seem to be any more being built.
